Boundless Roots - Thorben Eggers & Katharina Veerkamp In the double exhibition
"Boundless Roots" by Thorben Eggers and Katharina Veerkamp, two artists come together whose works at first glance don’t have too many similarities. However, the title of the exhibition gives us clues through which we can make a connection. The title brings images of vast networks of fungi to mind that stretch underground, sometimes for thousands of kilometres - like the honey fungus in Oregon, which is over 8000 years old, covers nine square kilometres, and weighs around 400 tons. The largest living organism in the world. This kind of connection often stays invisible, but not necessarily. Mangrove plants, for example, grow their roots endlessly out of the trunk (even through oceans), creating enormously complex, interspecific relationships. This networking is also a visual, surface-level matter that forms the habitat for countless other beings.
Thus, the reference to nature in the exhibition title is not coincidental, as both Eggers and Veerkamp draw their inspiration from nature, to then distort it in their technique, conveying their thoughts and ideas to the audience. (...)
